Today in #LaborHistory: Nov 19, 1915
Framed, charged, tried and convicted, Joe Hill was executed in Utah for a murder he did NOT commit. Among Hill's last words - to 'Big Bill' Haywood - was, "Could you arrange to have my body hauled to the state line to be buried? I don't want to be found dead in Utah."

"On June 27, 1915, a jury found Joe Hill guilty of murder in the first degree. During sentencing on July 8th under Utah statutes defining the penalty for first-degree murder, Joe Hill was given the option by Judge Ritchie of being hanged or shot to death. Hill replied, "I'll take shooting. I'm used to that. I have been shot a few times in the past and I guess I can stand it again." - from http://www.joehill.org/deathpenalty.htm
"A Salt Lake City jury convicted Hill largely because of one piece of circumstantial evidence: he had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest on the same night — Jan. 10, 1914 — that the grocer and his son were killed." - from http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/27/us/27hill.html…
"Woodrow Wilson also contacted Spry and asked for a retrial. This was refused and plans were made for Hill's execution by firing-squad ..." - from http://libcom.org/history/1915-the-murder-of-joe-hill
