"Pretty amazing way to end an anarchist bookfair day--taking the streets of Montreal with thousands of people on the 22nd (or 24th) night in a row of such "evening strolls." Last night and tonight, it seems the government is trying to figure out how to implement the new special law banning dissent, and so the police are being relatively hands-off. For instance, the cops asked us several times, in French through a loudspeaker, to please not throw rocks at them, merci. The march felt less like a protest--e.g., few signs--and more like a joyfully disobedient and confidently defiant assertion of social power. May 22 will mark 100 days of this remarkable student strike, with little end in sight and growing radicalism. Plus great walking for hours with dear anarchist friends, and I even got to see the anarchopanda. "
