A newly completed Pentagon study found 26,000 sexual attacks on women within US military just in 2012, which amounts to 70 attacks a day - an increase of 37% since 2010. This high figure is in spite of the known fact that many attacks aren't even reported for fear of retribution and unwanted attention and questioning. You don't need confessions by the generals and captains and other high level brass to know why such attacks are so rampant: sexual attacks on women in US military go unpunished. Not only that, too often, the victims are treated as the villains. Not only do they suffer the physical and psychological effects of the attacks, they often are further humiliated by being suspected of lying and interrogated and even retaliated against for reporting the incident, while the perpetrators are usually simply transferred, instead of serving time in jail. This is not a problem. It's an endemic and a crisis and show...s a complete disregard, disinterest and criminal negligence by military leadership.
The US military is already known for its brutality, massacres, indiscriminate bombings including of food depots and water treatment facilities that have no military value but serve the people, inhuman treatment of those they consider the enemy and for violation of international laws, including Geneva Conventions. It routinely uses and encourages racism and prejudice among its soldiers to incite hatred and facilitate easier killing and compensate for the troops’ low morale since all US wars are offensive rather than defensive and all are waged in foreign lands, thousands of miles away from home.
Disregard for lives and laws, mistreatment of captives, and lack of interest in protecting their women soldiers are the hallmarks of a military that for over a century has been an agent of imperial and colonial aggression and violence. It only makes sense that "the biggest purveyor of violence in the world", as Dr. King put it, would serve the biggest corporate criminals of the world. A TV commercial advertising US Navy calls it "a global force for good". Yes, the kind of good the likes of Monsanto and J. P. Morgan do for us. This corrupt and rotten to the core "global force" is nothing but the force of an evil and dangerous Empire serving giant corporations and protecting their bottom line and their super wealthy shareholders and threatening all life on the planet. The US military doesn't need reform or fixing. It needs to be purged for the sake of all humanity.
